Jenny, you shouldn't reduce the memory size when getting photos developed. It would result in fuzzy photos if they were large dimensions, or, if smaller dimensions, they will print them with blank borders around them. That's what one store did when I took in a photo that was really small in dpi; they printed a white border around it. The machine at the store warned me, before printing, that it wouldn't print correctly.

You can save a photo in different formats, though, so it can be used in different ways. I have my avatar photo in four different formats right now (large computer background, medium, avatar, and on the camera). It's really confusing to have to do that, though, and hopefully some day Internet technology will catch up with photo technology so the two are more compatible, and we consumers will have less grey hair! <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">In a word, yes. What is appropriate for print is too large a file for web pages, and vice versa. However, there is no need to constantly resize. Save one copy for print and one for the web, both at the proper ppi and file size for the purpose. And never alter your originals! Always work with copies.

Here is some additional helpful information about resizing pictures and picture resolution from MyPinkMermaid:

Here is some info that may help end some of the confusion regarding image and file sizes. I work with photos on line and in print all the time, and 150-200 ppi is sufficient info even for printed photographs. One of the most common mistakes made is confusing dpi (dots per inch) and ppi (pixels per inch). Dpi is what we print on paper and has no relation to ppi, which is what we see on our computer monitor. Pixels per inch is what we need to worry about here. The most you need to view online is 96 ppi. 150 ppi gives you more detail than you will ever need to view on these web pages. Where people get confused resizing their photos is the relationship of ppi to image size. The average digital camera these days gives you a file of about 72 ppi (sounds low, doesn't it) but the picture is a whopping 30x40 inches! You can resize it down to about 3x5, but now it is 450 or so ppi! You have to both resize, an! d reduce your ppi to get manageable file sizes. For the sake of easy downloading, whether emailing or including in your posts, try never to exceed 100kb total file size (and even can be a strain on dial up), or preferably 25 to 35 kilobytes (kb). You can also reduce your file size with jpg compression. When you save a copy of a 4x6 inch 300 ppi photo, you get a choice of jpg compression levels (usually) from 1 to 12. 12 will give you a 2 megabyte photo, which is appropriate for printing, but will choke even a DSL line on a bad day! Save at about level 5 if you still want to be able to print it out, and level 3 will give you a file of about 150kb, still potentially too large for the web. 96 ppi will give even smaller, and more desirable files for posting on this and other boards.

PS - Laurie - I think your pictures of Diana are so cute. I personally really wouldn't mind seeing them bigger, LOL. She looks so much like Samantha in your avatar - Just a classic American Girl Photo.

Here's your chance to weigh in on this one last time if you have any thoughts on signature length.

Post your comments here:

Please let me know the following:

1. Do large pictures slow your downloading time?

2. How many tickers should be allowed?

3. How many lines of text should be allowed?

4. Should we have a rule limiting bytes/pixels or just a general guideline?

1.: no

2.: one ticker

3.: two lines of text

4. One picture, of medium size, or two smaller ones. I don't think we should start making a rule about pixels. We should just give a general guideline. It seems to me that the tickers are more of a problem than pictures, anyway.

I have a high speed connection, but the animated pictures do definitely slow me down, the rest don't. I'm really not a fan of the tickers at all, I say, one AG related one if you're also going to use text and/or pictures, two if they are your whole signature. I also think we should just create sample siggies and put them in the rules. Then people can compare their own to the samples. Also, what are we limited to if all we have is text (yeah, that's about me, lol)? So, samples, samples samples!!!!

I find the list of dolls more annoying than tickers and pictures. I would limit it to two tickers and one picture, then if they want to, list links to their albums rather than all the dolls they have. It's pretty intimidating also for someone who only has one or two to see someone list 10 or so doll names with a hard return that takes up a separate line for each name.

"You can eliminate one line by using the URL button under add reply"
I'm working on uploading more albums. Where do I find this "reply" link so I can condense all of my albums to one link that brings up all my albums? i need step by baby step directions please . Thanks~Bugs

I will try to explain it but ask more questions if you don't get it!

Right click on you link to all your albums and save it.

When you are replying to a thread, there is a section down below the reply that is called "HostBoard Markup Language"

Click on the little gray rectangle that says "URL"
The URL box is in the far left hand upper corner in the Hostboard Markup Language Section.

After clicking on URL - paste your link and click OK

You will then be promted with another box. Put in something like "My AG Albums"

Click OK

The long web addresses should no longer show. The only thing that should show is "My AG Albums." This will be a useable link!

These are the instructions how do do this in a regular post. I am going to explain the my profile section after going to take a look at it again.
